Alisa asked for a unicorn, so a unicorn arrived and stayed — running the games, the photographs and the cake, which came out in rainbow with her name across it. Lilac and pastel ran the length of the lawn, and the cotton-candy stand had its own chef. Then the foam show took the garden, and her father came out of it wearing most of it.
A third birthday at a modern villa — concrete, glass, and a lawn running right up to the house.
